The personal iconography seen in my work speaks to the colorist tradition of Mexican artists like Rufino Tamayo and Nahum Zenil, and to my experiences as a Latina growing up in Los Angeles. As an artist I have been deeply influenced by the work of Zenil in particular, in that each piece reveals an intimate portrait, a secret encounter shared solely with the viewer. I have created an ongoing series, Small Testimonies, in which each watercolor is a snapshot of urban narratives—love lost and found, redemption, and the solitude felt in urban metropolises.
